- Don’t open the CSV by double-clicking it.
- Go in to excel
- File => Import
- Pick CSV file
- Select your file
- Pick Delimited, next (edited)
- Select comma, next
- Now this screen…. really important you select “text” for the column type on company number
How to keep the zeros in your CSV
All files from DueDil are automatically exported in .CSV format, which are then viewable on Excel. Company numbers often begin with a 0 (zero). The issue with this is that Excel, unless you tell it not to, will strip that 0 off the front of company numbers. From that point forward the file has been modified by excel without telling you. Even if you save as a CSV, you won’t get your 0s back.
