How to keep the zeros in your CSV
All files from DueDil are automatically exported in .CSV format, which are then viewable on Excel. Company numbers often begin with a 0 (zero). The issue with this is that Excel, unless you tell it not to, will strip that 0 off the front of company numbers. From that point forward the file has been modified by excel without telling you. Even if you save as a CSV, you won’t get your 0s back.
- Don’t open the CSV by double-clicking it.
- Go in to excel
- File => Import
- Pick CSV file
- Select your file
- Pick Delimited, next (edited)
- Select comma, next
- Now this screen…. really important you select “text” for the column type on company number
