Family Tree - What are subsidiary/intermediate parent/ultimate parent companies?

What is a subsidiary company?

A subsidiary company is a corporation with more than 50 percent of its stock owned by another corporation. The headquarters can be a subsidiary. Branches of a company and ultimate parents are never subsidiaries.

What is an intermediate parent company?

An intermediate parent company is the company immediately underneath the ultimate parent in the UK group hierarchy/family tree.

What is an ultimate parent company?

The ultimate parent company displayed in Artesian is defined by our provider, Experian. It is the ultimate controlling company within the group, i.e. the highest responsible entity within the corporate hierarchy in the UK. It will always have branches and/or subsidiary companies.

You may find that an ultimate parent company within the UK also has an ultimate parent overseas, which would control its UK company. Artesian will only display the UK-based company.

What is an Independent company?

An Independent company has no reported parent or subsidiary companies associated with them. Their shareholdings will be primarily comprised of individual shareholders instead of businesses.
